Spring King live at Scala
27/05/2016
Thursday night in London and Spring King burst onto the stage to play the final show in their headline tour. Hit by a wall of sound from the crowd, Tarek – both vocalist and drummer – grins at the front row of waving hands.
Spring King have come a long way since Zane Lowe decided to drop ‘City’ on Apple Music’s Beats 1 as the first ever track played on the new radio station. After working hard touring the UK, Tarek & co aren’t taking a rest either. Along with a packed festival schedule, they’re releasing their debut album ‘Tell Me If You Like To’ on 10 June. Spring King are a band on the brink of becoming something really special and everyone in London’s Scala can feel it.
From the first notes of ‘Better Man’ through to current single ‘The Summer’, the opening salvo of tunes has everyone on their feet – especially the security staff; kept busy chasing crowd surfers around the stalls.
Singles ‘Rectifier’ and ‘Who Are You?’ are definite favourites with the audience belting the chorus back at the band on stage. This causes Tarek to pause and yell out “Thank you London! What have I done to deserve you!?”
The band bring their set to a close with the track that started it all: ‘City’ and the streets of Kings Cross are soon filled with beaming fans yelling “Who am I? What does it matter?!”
Make sure you see this band.
